NFL RECAP: Week 7

Wow, the last undefeated team fell last Sunday. I was hoping the Vikings could hold on a little bit longer but it wasn’t to be.  This season has turned out to be extremely interesting to say the least.  The Vikings and the Patriots are the best looking teams right now.  Honorable mention would be Dallas and Atlanta.  The rest of the teams in the league are a coin toss.

Bears vs. Packers: Packers won 26 to 10.  The Bears started off okay but there was no way they were going to beat the Packers.

Giants vs. Rams: The Giants won 17 to 10.  The Giants have Eli and OBJ so it stands to reason that they would beat the Rams.  The Rams have a decent defense which reflects the score.  The offense is dicey.

Browns vs. Bengals: Bengals won 31 to 17. The Browns are in a rebuilding stage so it will take a while for them to put a winning formula together.  As for the Bengals, they have had their share of struggles this season and I think a lot it has to do with injuries.

Redskins vs. Lions: Lions won 20 to 17. This was a good game.  The Redskins two turnovers caused this lost.

Raiders vs. Jaguars: Raiders won 33 to 16. Seriously, they played the Jaguars Jack Del Rio’s old team.

Saints vs. Chiefs: Chiefs won 27 to 21. I loved the way Andy Reid play called this game defensively.  I can’t stand games where the QB is just throwing the ball downfield.

Dolphins vs. Bills: Dolphins won 28 to 25. The Dolphins switching to a running game is racking up wins for them.

Ravens vs. Jets: Jets won 24 to 16. Geno starting made Fitzpatrick get it together.  Unfortunately, Geno has a torn ACL.

Eagles vs. Vikings: Eagles won 21 to 10. It was an off day for the Vikings defense.  However, the Eagles have a good defense as well and they were swarming Sam Bradford.  These two teams are pretty evenly matched defensively.  Coach Zimmer was not happy with the team’s performance and that’s understandable.

Colts vs. Titans: Colts won 34 to 26. The Colts running game and the one turnover was the difference in the game.

Chargers vs. Falcons: Chargers won 33 to 30. The coach caused this loss.

Buccaneers vs. 49ers: Buccaneers won 34 to 17. The 49ers need to improve the defensive and offensive lines.

Patriots vs. Steelers: Patriots won 27 to 16. No Big Ben.

Seahawks vs. Cardinals: Tie 6 to 6. This was the best defensive played game of the season thus far and enjoyable to watch.  One flaw that was exposed with respect to the Seahawks is how much they miss Marshawn Lynch.

Texans vs. Broncos: Broncos won 27 to 9.  The Broncos, after suffering back-to-back defeats, found its rhythm (i.e. defense) against the Texans.

NFL RECAP: Week 6 Return of the Running Back

Image result for image of running backsImage result for image of running backs

RETURN OF THE RUNNING BACK, YES!!!

This has been an interesting six weeks of football. There are two teams that are really standing out and they are the Vikings and the Patriots.  I will give more kudos to the Vikings because Coach Zimmer hasn’t been the head coach for very long but he has done a great job with the team after losing the starting QB to a very serious injury during the preseason.  As for the Pats, one word – Belichick.

Broncos vs. Chargers: Chargers won 21 to 13.  The Chargers defense showed up, which has been uncommon.  The Chargers had more rushing yards than receiving yards.  Teams need a running game.

49ers vs. Bills: Bills won 45 to 16. Contrary to what some people want to say, Kap did well.  You can’t give up 45 points on defense and expect to win.

Eagles vs. Redskins: Redskins won 27 to 21. Matt Jones rushed for 134 yards and that’s what made the difference, not Cousins.

Browns vs. Titans: Titans won 28 to 26. The Browns just have to find a way to win.  They’ve lost some really close games so it’s a matter of figuring out what’s missing.

Ravens vs. Giants: Giants won 27 to 23. Does anyone really care?

Panthers vs. Saints: Saints won 41 to 38. The Panthers have gotten away from what made them so successful last year, DEFENSE.  Go back to being a defensive unit and things will change.

Jaguars vs. Bears: Jaguars won 17 to 16. I cry foul!!!

Rams vs. Lions: Lions won 31 to 28. Hmmm,

Steelers vs. Dolphins: Dolphins won 30 to 15. The Dolphins beat the pants off the Steelers and it was because of their running game that was a good change in their offense.

Chiefs vs. Raiders: Chiefs won 26 to 10. I have told people to stop saying the Raiders are back because they’re not.

Falcons vs. Seahawks: Seahawks won 26 to 24.  Seriously, the ref should have called pass interference on Richard Sherman but he didn’t that’s why the Falcons lost.

Cowboys vs. Packers: Cowboys won 30 to 16.  The media is beating up on Aaron Rodgers but actually, more credit should be given to the Cowboys strategy.  The Cowboys rookie running back and rookie quarterback proved to be too much for the Packers.  The Packers didn’t have an answer for the Cowboys running game.

Colts vs. Texans: Texans won 26 to 23.  Osweiler must have heard Rodney Harrison, who is a complete idiot say “he was trying hard not to say that Osweiler is a bad QB or football player.” Well Brock showed him.

Jets vs. Cardinals: Cardinals won 28 to 3. When Fitzpatrick was holding out for more money last summer, I said the Jets should let him go because he was a flash in the pan.  Geno is starting on Sunday.  It’s important not to listen to players on the team like Brandon Marshall because he is a player on the team and an employee, not the head coach.

NFL RECAP: WEEK 5

Image result for images of football defenseImage result for images of football defenseVIKINGS/BRONCOS/EAGLES

49ers vs. Cardinals: The Cardinals won 33 to 21.  Surely, no one thought the 49ers would win. Come on, I know you were holding out hope because Carson Palmer wasn’t starting but that’s not a good enough reason to believe the squad had a chance.  It’s not that the Cardinals are flourishing this season.  San Francisco’s front office has to boot Trent Baalke, the GM and allow Chip Kelly coach from his gut. Jed York needs to do Baalke what Jeffrey Lurie did to Chip Kelly, except don’t wait until before the week before the last game to fire him, fire Baalke now and let his uncle, Ed DeBartolo, Jr. become the interim GM.  Jed York was very inexperienced for the role of president so instead of seeking advice from Ed DeBartolo, Jr. he drank far too much Baalke juice which has resulted in the team going back to what it was when Jed York’s mother sued her brother, Ed DeBartolo, Jr. for the team.

Redskins vs. Ravens: Redskins won 16 to 10. The Ravens are imploding and it’s due to the team’s inability to get any offense going.  The defense is decent but the offense is horrible.  The Redskins won because they played the Ravens.

Patriots vs. Browns: Patriots won 33 to 13. I had to listen to Brady is back from all of the commentators, seriously guys they played the Browns.  Hue Jackson still has a lot of work to do and hopefully RG3 will get his mind off of his Instagram “side chick” and do his job when he returns from injuries.

Eagles vs. Lions: Lions won 24 to 23. This was a nail biter.  I was pulling for the Eagles to remain undefeated but it wasn’t to be. Consistency from your kicker can be the difference between a win, a tie or a loss.  The Eagles learned that the hard way yesterday.

Bears vs. Colts: Colts won 29 to 23.  This is what happens to a team when you fire a winning coach (i.e. Lovie Smith).  All Smith did while he was in Chicago was win and now the team is at the bottom of the heap and that’s because the franchise is being poorly run.  Fans can cry about Jay Cutler all day but in my opinion the biggest problem with the team is the management.

Titans vs. Dolphins: Titans won 30 to 17. The fans were chanting for the backup QB to start for the Dolphins but let’s be real.  The Dolphins have bigger problems than the QB.  Tannenhill has his problems but when the OL is being pushed around, and Tannenhill is being knocked all over the field and is forced to run for his life come on now there are other problems. Also, the problems have existed for years.  The Dolphins Management hired 38 year old Adam Gase as the head coach last season after firing the head coach, Joe Philbin.  Gase served in a number of assistant roles in the NFL since 2003 but seriously, was he really qualified to be a head coach of an NFL team that has suffered defeat after defeat since the retirement of Don Shula.

Texans vs. Vikings: Vikings won 31 to 13.  The Vikings defense was just too much for the Texans.  The Vikings are the only undefeated team and that says a lot about how this season is playing out.

Falcons vs. Broncos: Falcons won 23 to 16. The Falcons up tempo offense threw the Broncos off their game.  They scored early and didn’t show any fear, which resulted in a win.  However, Siemens wasn’t able to play so the back-up QB was playing for Broncos so that played a role in the Broncos losing as well.

Cowboys vs. Bengals: Cowboys won 28 to 14. The Bengals are struggling this season but if this keeps up it’s possible they could miss the playoffs for the first time in a long time.  Jerry Jones said that Romo will start when he returns, seriously?

Bills vs. Rams: Bills won 30 to 19.  The Rams left L.A. a loser and they returned a loser, that’s all I have to say, except why do people believe Jeff Fisher is a good coach? One more thing, the Bills are not real.

Chargers vs. Raiders: Raiders won 34 to 31. Raider fans please don’t get your hopes up based on the commentators saying how real the Raiders are and they’re back.  Jack Del Rio is the coach and the team is only going to go so far before it implodes.

Giants vs. Packers: Packers won 23 to 16.  Packers won in spite of Aaron Rodgers being picked off twice, really?  The Giants have to be able to convert picks into points.  The Giants did a fairly good job putting pressure on Rodgers but if the offense can’t put points on the board it’s all for naught.

Panthers vs. Buccaneers: Bucs won 17 to 14.  This game came down to the kicker for the Bucs and he came through in the end after missing to field goals early in the game.  Cam didn’t play because of a concussion.  The Panthers MUST  improve the OL.  The Panthers are still a good team but they just need to find a way to get all of the cylinders firing again.

NFL Recap: Week 4

Image result for images of football defenseImage result for images of football defense

This season has been surprising early on but keep in mind there is still a lot of football to be played.  The biggest surprise of course being the Eagles.  Everyone including me thought that team would be in the garbage for the next ten years after what Chip Kelly did but Eagles owner, Jeffrey Lurie was not having it.  It’s truly amazing what he has done and drafting Carson Wentz was an excellent move.  The Cowboys Dak Prescott played in the league in another life.  The poise this young man exhibits is just uncanny for a newbie.  When the 49ers scored first, he was not bothered and the presence and calm he displays on the field trickles downs to the other players, which results in them playing at a higher level.  The Minnesota Vikings and Denver Broncos are just masters of the universe when it comes to defense and just a pleasure to watch.  There is nothing like a well oiled defense.  DEFENSE WINS GAMES ALL DAY LONG!!!

Dolphins vs. Bengals: Cincinnati won 22 to 7.  Miami has not had a good team since Don Shula retired and with a new coach, it’s just par for the course.

Colts vs. Jaguars: Jaguars won 30 to 27.  The Jaguars have played all of the opposing teams very close but lost in the list few minutes of the game.  Fortunately, they figured out a way to defeat the Colts.  The Colts are up and down thus far.  They need to figure out a rhythm.

Panthers vs. Falcons: Falcons won 48 to 33.  The Panthers have got to improve the offensive line because Cam is being slaughtered.  The protection is not there, Michael Orr is out with a concussion which leaves Cam’s blindside wide open.  The Falcons have been surprise but they have of tendency to fade to black later in the season so it’s wait and see for now.

Raiders vs. Ravens: Raiders won 28 to 27.  Surely, you didn’t think the Ravens would remain undefeated but the Ravens losing to Raiders shows that the team has a long way to go.

Lions vs. Bears: Bears won 17 to 14.  Brian Hoyer made the difference in this game.  I’ve said time and time again that Brian Hoyer is a good QB from the time he was with Browns but bad coaching and a subpar team will destroy a QB.  My recommendation to the Bears is to keep Hoyer in this role and relegate Jay Cutler to back-up.

Titans vs. Texans: Texans won 27 to 20.  Good defensive game by both teams, which is something I enjoy watching.

Bills vs. Patriots: Bills won 16 to 0.  Of the four games without Brady everyone predicted the Pats would lose one game and that would be the game against the Cardinals.  No one and I do mean no one expected the Bills to be the team to beat them.  That said, the Bills won because both of the Pats starting QBs are injured.  I’m not sure how real the Bills are right now after firing Greg Roman but time will tell.

Seahawks vs. Jets: Seahawks won 27 to 17.  Russell Wilson has been playing with injuries but shoring up the OL is what was needed to secure a victory.  The Jets placed their money on Fitzpatrick aka “The Journeyman” and they’re losing as a result.  It’s time to get another QB ready.

Browns vs. Redskins: Redskins won 31 to 20.  Seriously, nobody cares?

Broncos vs. Buccaneers: Broncs won 27 to 7. Of course the Broncos won.  However, the Bucs management fired Lovie Smith and promoted his offensive coordinator and he’s proving that he doesn’t have the skillset for this role.  Like the Bears this management decision will prove to be their undoing but the media will blame Jameis Winston, when the problem is poor coaching and management.

Rams vs. Cardinals: Rams won 17 to 13.  The Cardinals are imploding and it’s because Bruce Arians has placed all of his eggs in the Carson Palmer basket which was the wrong thing to do.  He expects Palmer to be able to throw long deep passes down the field when he doesn’t have the arm strength for that and manage the offense, not going to happen.  When you have a QB like Palmer the team’s OL has to carry him and so does the team’s defense.  Peyton Manning won a Super Bowl and he couldn’t throw a nerf football down field but the OL and DL carried the team.  Arians needs to come to terms with Palmer’s lack of arm strength and coach accordingly.  As for the Rams, time will tell if they’re real so the jury is still out on them.

Saints vs. Chargers: Saints won 35 to 34.  Seriously, enough of these “whichever team throws the most touchdowns” wins, it’s stupid and not interesting to watch.  Where is the defense?

Cowboys vs. 49ers: Cowboys won 24 to 17.  Blaine Gabbert put the 49ers in the lead first but completely fizzled out and couldn’t sustain the offense but I’m not surprised.  It’s my guess that Chip Kelly chose Gabbert over Kap because Trent Baalke told him to do so and if my hunch is right, it’s going to be a long season for Kelly for several reasons.  First, I don’t think he knows anything about assessing talent and that was obvious in Philly.  Second, he chose Gabbert over the QB that got the 49ers to the Super Bowl for the first time in many years because of the media and Baalke, who is really nothing but a scout and not a very good one.  Third, Kelly has no experience in coaching a team up from the ashes.  He’s always danced his way into a program that’s already experiencing success.  Kelly needs to take some chances, switch out the QB and coach from his gut, not because someone is telling him what to do or out of fear.  My prediction is that Baalke will be let go after this season for a number of reasons.  I believe Jed York may be finally coming into his own and is no longer drinking the Baalke juice.

Chiefs vs. Steelers: Steelers won 43 to 14.  I know the Steelers got a beat down last week but the Chiefs are no match for Big Ben and Company.

Giants vs. Vikings: Vikings won 24 to 10.  Coach Zimmer is just amazing to watch.  The Defense of the Vikings is just too much for the other teams.  I said this summer Coach Zimmer is my favorite coach.  Keep in mind when Chip Kelly was coaching the Eagles he traded Nick Foles to the Rams for Sam Bradford and Bradford was a marginal QB in Philly.  However, under Coach Zimmer he’s thriving.  It’s coaching people coaching that produces a competitive football team.  Football analysts need to stop placing 100% of the blame on the QB and conduct a deeper review of the coaching staff.
